It looks like the design aesthetic took over the functionality. Instead of the nacelles looking like they drive the ship, the ship looks like it's leading the nacelles on a walk they don't want to take.ģ.
Plus, they mount to the nacelles way too far forward. The combination of looking swept forward at the trailing edge, and swept slightly backward at the leading edge make it look like it's static. Where to start? They look like they were plopped onto the engineering hull. The A looks like it was just startled by something.Ģ. The dorsal pylon (neck) went from swept forward on the original, to pulled back and stumpy on the A. It's light years better than any generic rocket ship, or brick with antennae design you see from most sci-fi.ġ. Just my opinion, I know I'm in the minority and I'll probably get downvoted like always for expressing it, but it is what it is. But with so much thrown in I just can't like this movie. if that's all there was I could accept it. Some of the action is solid, and I can almost get past the "waaaa, Kirk is bored!" thing. Spock/McCoy together is fantastic, and all the other actors do good work. There's probably more if I force myself to remember the movie, but those always jump out at me as beyond (hehe) ridiculous. Then there's Krall's entire storyline, which just makes no sense on any level. And the less said about the whole Sabotage crap the better (yep, I'm one of the people that can't get past that). Then, how exactly is he a master motorcyclist? It's not just that he rides GREAT, which would be bad enough, but he can ALSO shoot a phaser at the same time with seemingly perfect accuracy?! And where exactly did he find gasoline that's not unusable anyway?! And then, the whole "grab hands and we'll be transported" thing is just not the way transporters work (I can usually put aside things like that, but it's SO egregious here to me). Like, Kirk is BORED exploring space?! To be blunt, FUCK THAT! That's just not Jim Kirk. It still looks fantastic, and it's certainly made well enough, but there's just too many things that bug me to no end. I feel like I'm watching a bad action sci-fi written by someone who has never watched Star Trek. It's just that when I watch it, I don't feel like I'm watching Star Trek. I actually LIKE these actors and think they all do a good job in their respective roles.
